A Cleanse and a New Workout!! I've Entered The Asylum!!

What's new? Well, I did a 3 Day Shakeology cleanse three weeks ago. I lost 7 lbs on the cleanse, but more importantly, I didn't drink coffee or have any sugar for three days, now that is an accomplishment. I am a coffee addict, in fact, in the past, I have gone a few hours in the morning with no coffee and had an awful skull splitting headache. This time, it did not happen and I realized that I can live without coffee, and, I can live without sugar. I have gone back to drinking coffee, but much less than before. I have also gone back to having sugar, but in much smaller quantities. I know, there are artificial sweeteners out there, but I don't like them, and in the long run, I think it is better to just cut back on the natural sugar than to eat some chemicals :)

In addition to the cleanse, or Jumpstart, I also completed my 3rd round of P90X!!! I love P90X and I have achieved AWESOME results.
So I started a new round right after doing my Shakeology Jumpstart. And just as I was finishing up my first week of Round 4, Beachbody made Asylum available for coaches!! I thought about it for a few days because I heard that the original workout from Shaun T was difficult, Insanity!! I never did Insanity before, but I tried some of the moves in a Super Workout that Beachbody released to it's members on their website. From just that small taste of Insanity, I knew it was difficult. In addition, I am a big fan of workouts that target muscle gain & toning, however, i am not such a big fan of cardio. It's funny too, because when I first started P90X, I hated the muscle workouts, now I LOVE them!! So I had to decide if I was going to start a workout that was going to be (from what I'd heard) the most difficult at home workout out there. And then a light bulb went off in my head. That was the point!!! The point was that it was the MOST DIFFICULT!! If I really wanted to see how far I had come and how much further I need to progress, then I had to try THE most difficult workout around. So I ordered it!!
IT'S HERE!!! I ran around work that day screaming!! It's here, It's here!! My boss couldn't imagine what I was running around with. ASYLUM!!! So I open the box and I see the agility ladder, a jump rope and bands and the DVDs. I get home that night and I do the athletic assessment which was difficult, but I was able to stay in the range of reps that the others in the video were doing. Not great, but nor terrible!! So on day 1 it took me about 2 hours to complete the first 45 minute workout!! Shaun T is nothing like Tony Horton in P90X, he moves very fast. So, since I am nuts about doing things right, I kept rewinding and starting over every time I screwed up. I enjoyed the next two days of workouts much more, Strength and Back to Core!!! Then  came the ultimate workout, and when I say ultimate I mean OMG!!! It's called Vertical Plyo, which means JUMPING and in some instances, you are doing jumps with bands attached to your ankles and wrists to give you an even tougher workout!! Check out the pic below, and I was not even completely through the workout yet!! That's my neck BTW!!
So now I know that I can do these workouts and they really are TOUGH!! But, I do like a challenge, so I have 24 more days and after I am done, I will post a few pics, and then I am going to start on a hybrid of P90X and Asylum!! That's right!! Oh but there is a very good reason why I am going to torture myself with the hybrid, I think that if I can do both Asylum and P90X, I can get myself ready for Beachbody's next offering... What is it? STAY TUNED!!!

Donating My Hair and My Legs, Well Sort Of...

Soooo, I have realized that since I am not in a place where I can donate financially to every cause that I would like to, I am going to make a real effort to start doing things that are within my power. Since I have started drinking Shakeology, I have notice a significant change in my hair, so much so that other people have actually told me that it looks so much healthier. For years after my daughter was born, I was obsessed with the fact that my hair was thinning SIGNIFICANTLY!! It wasn't just that, the texture had changed and everything, Ugh it was terrible. However, since I started drinking Shakeology, it has filled out, is shinier and is growing like crazy!!
Well, since it is growing so much, I have decided to donate it to Locks Of Love. Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that makes prosthetic hairpieces for children who have suffered hair loss from either aloepicia, cancer, or other causes. I was going to get myself a nice haircut, something I don't normally do. Maybe it would even have a style! LOL But now, I have decided to let it grow for the next 3 or so months and cut it on June 1st. Whatever length there is below my shoulders will be donated!! I am hoping that my daughter can also hold out until June 1st and we can donate together!!
I am also going to do AIDS Walk NY with the fantastic group Fab-U-Plus !!! If anyone is interested in donating, you can find my page by clicking here. Tiffany Harris, founder of Fab-U-Plus, is FABULOUS for getting the group together to raise money, and awareness for such an important cause!!

Missing the Most Important Meal of The Day Can Lead To Weight Loss Sabotage!!

Check out this link to P90X's latest newsletter. #072 - P90X Newsletter - Healthy, Big Breakfasts - Fitness, Nutrition, Diet, Weight Loss Official Web site OK, I am going to admit it, I am not a breakfast eater!! I haven't been a breakfast eater since I was in High School. So now I have been reading more and more about getting enough carbs & protein in the morning to replenish what was lost all night long while you sleep. Don't forget, we still burn calories while we sleep. But interestingly, the article states that because our Serotonin levels are highest in the morning, (you know Serotonin, it is the Hap, Hap, Happy hormone :) ) we tend to skip breakfast. But doing so makes our serotonin levels drop later in the day. Now I know why I am so grouchy by 3:00!!! Oh but there is more, because our bodies are starving, from not having any food for all those hours, it starts to store what we eat later as fat you know, for survival reasons!!! YIKES!!
Say it with me: "From this day forth, I shall eat breakfast!!!"

A Challenge!!

Back Pic using bands. Pre Pull Up Bar
I finally finished putting together my pull up stand, the Body Vision PT600. You can do pull ups, chin ups, hanging crunches, dips, and push ups with this and it was on sale at Amazon for only $100.00 with shipping. It seems really sturdy. What I have just discovered is that despite this being my 3rd round of P90X, I am not yet able to do a pull up. I had a pull up bar before this that mounted around the top door frame in a doorway. I used it a few times (with a chair for assistance) and it seemed okay until I must have push it forward and as I got to the top of a pull up the entire thing fell and I landed squarely on my tailbone. PAIN!!! YIKES!! Needless to say I never used it again, so I have never tried pull ups again. I did not let the lack of a pull up bar deter me though, I had bands which I was using with P90X in lieu of the pull up bar. I must say that I got great results with the bands, and as time passed I kept adding on a band (I have three together now) to increase the tension. I guess I could have continued without trying to do a pull up, I mean I did get awesome results with the bands. So why do I need to do pull ups?

I need to do pull ups because I can't. I have been thinking about it since I stopped using the pull up bar that some day I would put it back up and I would learn to do pull ups. A CHALLENGE!!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, a CHALLENGE!! Are there things that you are just not good at so you completely avoid them? Why not meet the challenge head on, keep trying until you can at least say that you did it. For me, until the day that I can do a full set of unassisted pull ups, I will keep trying!!
Find a challenge today. Do something today that challenges you, it does not necessarily have to be a workout, it can be making an important phone call that you have to make but have been avoiding. It could be signing up for a class that you really want to take, but that you know will be difficult and will really challenge you mentally.
Right now I am about to meet my challenge head on and get my chair and start out attempting some assisted pull ups. As soon as I am able to do some unassisted pull ups, I will some pics of my back, lets see if it makes a difference!!
GO FIND A CHALLENGE!!!

Need to Eat A Frog

So yesterday I started reading a book called Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy. I am not a big believer in the idea that my life will change from following someone's book. HOWEVER, I am the biggest procrastinator on the planet!! So I need to get myself to doing what I need to do and setting priorities instead of busying myself with my love of chatting on Facebook :) So far, I have only read about 20 pages and I really feel like I may be able to make some changes in my life so I don't always feel like I am so under the gun. Oh and BTW, stress is a big factor in a whole host of illnesses. So my goal is to get to a place in my life where I don't always feel like I am running. Running to get from place to place and always late, and running and rushing to get things done.
Speaking of stress, if you are not working out, YOU SHOULD BE!! Why? Oh because working out is such a great stress reliever. First, working out lets you let off some steam so there is an immediate reduction in stress. Second, working out releases endorphins, sort of like nature's drugs, so you are feeling awesome when you are done. And lastly, we all have very little time in our lives where we are able to concentrate on doing something good for ourselves. When you are working out, your mind is completely focused on the workout, or getting through it. So all of the worries of the day fall away for the hour that you are doing a workout ahhhh....

Not Really Sure How to Start

Ok, so I am not really sure how to start. With the exception of some online college courses that required us to blog, I have never blogged. Come to think of it, I think in the online course when I started the page in a similar fashion to this, it was met with a bit of criticism. Maybe I should say that I just don't know how to blog well.
I named this blog Kim Beuther Wants to Help Everyone Get Healthy because that is pretty much what I want to do. Why? Well, because I know what it like to be up around 300 lbs. I know what it is like to walk around believing that you will never, ever, ever lose weight. I know because I have been there!! I am not an expert, I am not a nutritionist, a doctor, a lawyer, a dietitian or a personal trainer etc.  I just want to help people get motivated to work out, to try to change their eating habits, and to see that they are not alone and with enough hard work and perseverance, anyone can find a healthier lifestyle!!
That being said, I am a beachbody coach and I have been through the rigorous P90X regiment twice and am nearing the middle of my third round. I didn't lose all the weight through P90X though. I started out just walking YUP, I said it and you read it right, walking. Walking is something that nearly everyone can do, the more you do it, the faster and further you can go. You lose weight and you realize that a mile is no longer far, two miles is no longer far, 3 miles is no longer far, then when you can walk 13 miles.... Well, OK, 13 miles is FAR!! But I've done it without even a pain in my legs the next day. I also did yoga, yoga is another thing that can be done by nearly anyone with modification. Yoga gave me balance, flexibility, and strength.
But I wanted to be stronger, so I saw an infomercial for P90X and I thought... I AM READY FOR THAT!!! So I bought it and guess what? I wasn't really all that ready for it, but I still pushed myself everyday to do it.
Now, I have muscles, and I want more!! So keep with me as I try to reshape my body into a lean, mean, machine :) Ok not a machine, but at least lean and non-flabby :) Let's get in the best possible shape of our lives!!
